"Fear is an emotional response to a perceived threat. It is a basic survival mechanism occurring in response to a specific stimulus, such as pain or the threat of danger" (wikipedia, fear). One of the most significant and biggest consequences of terrorism is simply the creation of fear felt in people's everyday lives. Especially after the 9.11 attack that took place in 2001, people in America, and also in other countries are scared, both for their own security, their country and people that they love. When all of a sudden a bomb explodes, or two planes crash into the building where you work, or where persons you know are staying, you get terrified, and fear strikes you. Suddenly it's not safe to walk on the streets, or just be inside your house, because terror-attacks can strike you wherever you are.
A consequence of this is that the security at airports, and security in general have increased all over the world. Today, the security at airports are much stricter than before. When terror-attacks occur, people all over the world get frightened and affected by it. When people are scared to leave their house and go to work, the terrorists have achieved what they wanted. Especially after the 9.11 attack, terrorists have shown us what they are able to do.
On the other hand, the fear that is created among the people can be an advantage for us. Now that we know what the terrorists are able to do, we can do everything we can to prevent terror-attacks from happen. This makes it more difficult for the terrorists to plan and complete their sinister ulterior motives.
